As Submerge, we want to grow and move forward together, and be all that God want’s us to be. Below are a few thoughts about that…….

So what’s the big idea? What are we trying to do? What is life all about? When Jesus was on earth, he was asked by one of the teachers this same question. What’s the most important thing we can do with our lives?

‘One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” Mark 12:28

It is really important for any body of people to have a vision and a purpose. We need to know what we’re about, and why we do the things we do.

The purpose of Submerge is to build a worshipping community in the emerging generation. Let’s break that down a little.

We’re into worship, because we believe God created us human beings to have a love relationship with him. There is a real and deep need in all human being to worship God who created them. Ultimately, that’s why we were created. Because Jesus died instead of us, we can come to God and worship him just the way we are. There are different ways of worshipping God: music, creativity, words, lifestyle. Submerge is about worshipping God in all of these ways.

“The most important one” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:29-30

We’re into community. God made us to have a relationship with him, and with each other. We were not designed to live our lives independently from one another. We need each other. There is so much we can all do to serve and love each other. And we’re all much better off when we make other people more important than us. As Submerge, we’ll be discovering how to build real community and live as God really intended for us to live.

“The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31

We’re into the emerging generation, which is far more than just a buzz word. Submerge is aimed at anyone between GCSE age (year 10) right through to people who have recently graduated from university. We want our whole generation to have something worth living for. We want the people we live with, study with, and go out with to know that Jesus loves them too. He died for them as well as for us. And he lives for them as well as for us.

Often we find it tough to be like Jesus with other people, let alone tell them about him. But God is calling us to do it. He has chosen us to make a difference in the world. He has chosen each one of us to do our bit. Infact, he didn’t just choose us. We are his plan for our generation – his best plan. We’re it. If God wants to reach our entire generation, how is he going to do it? Through us. God wants to use us to give our generation hope and a future. And we can show an entire generation what an amazing future they can have if they start getting to know Jesus.

‘Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matt 28:18-20
